Thomas possibly brother to Joseph Bourne \nwho married Sophia`s younger sister Mary &#8211; see below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Elizabeth<\/em> (b. 1833) Cannot find her in 1841 but&nbsp; in 1851&nbsp; is a  visitor aged 17 with her cousin Helen Ruth Tredwell aged 3 at Knights  Hill, Surrey. <em>Elizabeth<\/em> married  Henry Worton Elliott a metal manufacturer in 1855 and had 4 children, <strong>1<\/strong>. Elizabeth Helen  (b. 1857 m. 1890 Percy John Beauchamp Payne). Elizabeth and Percy had one  daughter Elizabeth Margaret who in 1918 married Henry Wilkes&nbsp; &#8211; they had a daughter  Faith.&nbsp; <strong>2<\/strong>.&nbsp; Henry John (b. 1859 m. 1883 Annette Elizabeth Mary Barnett).  Henry and Annette had 7 children: Henry Ernest, Lorna Elizabeth, Edward Lawrence, Arthur  Cedric (possibly lived in Queensland, Australia 1930\/36), Richard Derrick, Philip  and William. <strong>3.<\/strong> Alice Maud (b. 1861 m. 1894 Francis McLure Payne) and  Margaret Isabel (b. 1863 m. 1891 Charles Walters)<strong>4<\/strong>. Margaret and Charles had 3 sons, Charles,  Edgar and Kenneth.&nbsp;  Henry&nbsp; Snr acted as executor to the Wills of Elizabeth`s uncles John and Thomas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <em>Joseph<\/em> (civil engineer) married (1) Henrietta Newman.&nbsp; In 1851 Joseph  is at school in Whalley, Lancs. Joseph and Henrietta had 5 children &#8211; Edith  Anne,&nbsp; Francis John married his cousin Kate Bourne in 1897, Francis was a  student engineer in 1881, later enlisted in 1914 and served as a Captain. He was  a Quartermaster in WW1. It is recorded that he retired from the Army on  retirement pay, with a rank of Hon. Lt. Colonel.&nbsp; He and Kate lived at Town&nbsp;  House, Brindle.&nbsp; Eunice Sophia, Henrietta (both Edith and Henrietta died  1871), Joseph Guy. Wife Henrietta died 1873 age 34. Joseph married (2) Mary &#8211; one child William and  lived for many years on the Isle of Wight.&nbsp;In 1881&nbsp; Francis and Eunice  are visiting elsewhere on the island.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Graces Guide<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8216;1893 Obituary <sup>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#_note-0\">[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JOSEPH BOURNE was born on the 5th of August, 1836, and \n\t\t\t\tcommenced his engineering career at the early age of fifteen as \n\t\t\t\ta pupil in the\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracesguide.co.uk\/Swindon_Works\">\n\t\t\t\tLocomotive Works<\/a> of the Great Western Railway Company at \n\t\t\t\tSwindon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the expiration of his five years&#8217; apprenticeship he was \n\t\t\t\toccupied from 1854 to 1856 on the construction of the\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracesguide.co.uk\/South_Wales_Railway\">\n\t\t\t\tSouth Wales Railway<\/a>, now part of the Great Western system.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was then engaged for two years as an Outdoor Locomotive \n\t\t\t\tSuperintendent on the Great Western Railway, the service of \n\t\t\t\twhich Company he resigned in 1858 to accept the post of manager \n\t\t\t\tto\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracesguide.co.uk\/Tredwell_and_Co\">\n\t\t\t\tTredwell&#8217;s Railway Works<\/a> at Gloucester, since extinct. After \n\t\t\t\tremaining with that firm about three years, he was occupied from \n\t\t\t\t1861 to 1864 as assistant manager at the\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracesguide.co.uk\/index.php?title=Hednesford_Colliery&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">\n\t\t\t\tHednesford Colliery<\/a> in Staffordshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, 1864, Mr. Bourne was appointed Resident Engineer, \n\t\t\t\tLocomotive Superintendent and General Manager of the\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracesguide.co.uk\/Isle_of_Wight_Railway\">\n\t\t\t\tIsle of Wight Railway<\/a>, a line 12 miles in length from Ryde \n\t\t\t\tto Ventnor. The duties of that post, which he held for \n\t\t\t\ttwenty-one years, map be said to have occupied the most \n\t\t\t\timportant part of his life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On leaving the service of the Isle of Wight Railway Company \n\t\t\t\tin the summer of 1885, Mr. Bourne took up his residence at \n\t\t\t\tStafford, where he remained for about three years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 1877 and 1883 he was lessee of the Britannia Works, \n\t\t\t\tBirkenhead, in which he carried on the business of the extinct \n\t\t\t\tfirm of\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracesguide.co.uk\/James_Taylor_and_Co\">\n\t\t\t\tJames Taylor and Co<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the autumn of 1892 he left Birkenhead for Wylde Green in \n\t\t\t\tWarwickshire, where he died on the 2nd of July, 1893, in the \n\t\t\t\tfifty-seventh year of his age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Bourne was a man of high honour and a marked sense of \n\t\t\t\trectitude, and whatever work he undertook was conscientiously \n\t\t\t\tand carefully performed. He was elected an Associate of the \n\t\t\t\tInstitution on the 6th of December, 1870, was subsequently \n\t\t\t\tplaced in the class of Associate Member, and on the 6th of \n\t\t\t\tFebruary, 1883, was transferred to the class of Member.`<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The source for the above is The  Institution of Civil Engineers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <em>Sarah<\/em> died an infant. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1841 Sophia is in Reigate with her brothers Thomas  and John, but her husband Thomas is at home with his son Joseph age 4 and  Thomas`s brothers George and Joseph and his son in Droitwich. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is possible Thomas died in 1842 in Droitwich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophia then married <strong> <a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/David%20Green\/Documents\/My%20Web%20Sites\/Bradleysite%202%20Nov\/pigg_piggott.htm#Francis\">Francis Pigg <\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>in  1843.&nbsp; Francis was 6 years younger than his wife and on their marriage  certificate he is an Accounts Clerk.&nbsp; Sophia and Francis had 3 more children.&nbsp;  In 1851 Sophia, Francis (now Piggott and a farmer with 150 acres) and Eliza,  John and Mary Sophia&nbsp; are in Mill Hill, Hendon. In 1861 Francis, now a  proprietor of a coal mine, is living in Cannock with Sophia and Eliza.&nbsp;  John is at school in Cheltenham and Mary Sophia at school in Claines, Worcs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Eliza \n(my gt.grandmother)<\/em>&nbsp; (b. 1844 &#8211; d.1918) (Francis is a &#8216;Gentleman&#8217; on \nbirth certificate)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <em>John<\/em> (b. 1845 &#8211; d. 1919)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <em>Mary Sophia <\/em>(b. 1847 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For information on this family please click the Francis Pigg Link.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sophia (my gt.gt.grandmother) born in 1814 first married Thomas Bourne in 1833 in Hadzor and had 3 children.
